Like
any other important project, exporting is serious business. It must be
obvious, that setting of export objectives will require some thought and
intelligence. That is how it should be. Export ventures are expensive and
the effort demanding. It
is a fact that India is a marginal player in the international
commodity trade.With the population that recently crossed one billion,
it seems as a market to large to be ignored. Clearly, most of the farm
goods exporting countries are targeting India and naturally what
will follow is a, major offensive imports. So far India, has
escaped the minimum market access on the grounds of continuing trade
deficit however with International pressure increasing India has
become vulnerable. You
all are very well aware this year is going to be one of the worst years
as far as exports of commodities are concerned. There is distress
selling in Tea. Coffee production is abundant. We are out priced
for rice prices, except small purchases from African / Bangladesh markets.
Soybean Meal has crashed / will further crash resulting in large
scale closure of soybean meal plants. Aflatoxin, crop failure has
become a regular phenomena for groundnuts and even in spite of increase
in import duties / more government control imports of sugar, edible oils,
etc. still are unaffected.
PEPPER _____________________________ WHITE
pepper
is a value-added form of black pepper either by retying, or by decorticating.
Retied white pepper has a fermented musky aroma relished by household consumers
in Germany, Belgium, France and Netherlands. Decorticated white pepper
is mild in aroma and used in fast food industry. There is a growing
demand for white pepper and white pepper based products (oils, oleoresins,
bits, powders) in the US, European Union, Canada, Australia and South Africa.
Europe alone imports 18,000 tones. The S/Canada, Australia and South
Africa together import 7,000 to 8,000 tones of white pepper.

are various variety of rice. India has already decided to split its 11
basmati varieties, notified under the Seed Act, into traditional and crossed
categories both for the domestic market and export labelling. Given the
huge gap in prices, this differentiation is expected to ensure greater
transparency in the basmati export business as customers would now
know what varieties they are purchasing. It is also expected to create
a distinct market for the crossed basmati varieties. These
are currently used largely for mixing with the premium traditional
basmati,
as they are more abundant and thus cheaper.
